Meditation for the Cultivation of Compassion
Compassion grants us confidence, hope, and comfort. It is a powerful force that connects us with other people, with animals, and indeed with all living beings – and it is the basis for peaceful coexistence.
Compassion can transform anger and heal emotional wounds. It can build understanding even where reason reaches its limits. Compassion is one of the most honest facets of love.
The “Meditation for the Cultivation of Compassion” can offer us protection and support in turbulent times, and it empowers us to make the world a little better through our own thoughts, words, and actions.
Instructions for Practicing the Meditation
You can practice the meditation sitting on a chair or on the floor. If you are sitting on a chair, place your feet shoulder-width apart and parallel to each other. If you are practicing sitting on the floor, you can meditate in the lotus position, half-lotus position, or cross-legged. Once you have assumed a comfortable sitting position, place your hands, palms facing upwards, relaxed on your thighs.
If you wish to meditate lying down, that is also possible. Lie relaxed on your back with your arms loosely beside your body.
Close your eyes and gently place the tip of your tongue against your upper palate. Relax your body and calm your mind. Smile. Then, accompanied by the audio file, begin the meditation.
At the end of the meditation, gently rub your hands together, lightly massage your face, head, ears, and neck, and stroke your lower back area a few times with your palms.
The meditation presented above is available free of charge to all people. Commercial use or trade is not permitted. All rights remain with Buyin Zheng.
