Meditation on a Mother’s Love

A mother is the first person through whom we experience love. She is the source of all feelings of love. Without our mother, we would never have known how to love.

Love is important for everyone. Everyone needs it. We should therefore give love to our mother and father as well as to our children, our partners, our whole family, our friends, our colleagues—everyone around us, and all living beings and things. When you practise love, the heart grows with every second, until love ultimately encompasses the entire universe.

Instructions for practising the meditation

You can practise the Qigong meditation exercise presented here while sitting on a chair or on the floor. If you are sitting on a chair, place your feet parallel next to each other, shoulder-width apart. If you practise while sitting on the floor, you can meditate in the lotus position, half-lotus position, or cross-legged position.

Once you have found a comfortable seated position, bring your hands relaxed close in front of your chest. Your palms face the sky and your fingers point slightly towards each other, as if you were holding a lotus flower. Alternatively, you can rest your hands relaxed on your thighs. In this case, your palms also face the sky. If it is not possible for you to practise while sitting, you can also do the meditation lying down.

Sit or lie down completely relaxed. Gently place the tip of your tongue against the upper palate. Observe how your breathing becomes calm, even, and slow. Calm your thoughts. Then begin the meditation, accompanied by the text of the audio file.

To conclude the meditation, gently rub your hands together, lightly massage your face, head, ears, and neck, and stroke the kidney area a few times with your palms.

You can do the meditation regardless of whether your mother is still alive or has already passed on—and also regardless of whether your mother made mistakes. No one is perfect. Your mother’s love will always accompany you. It is the source of all feelings of love. Our mother’s love symbolises the love of all living beings and things. It gives us compassion, trust, strength, and harmony.

The audio file is approximately 23 minutes long.
